ShadeDrop Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
ShadeDrop does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share personal data.
The app works completely offline. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, update checker, or network client. Covering style, charm, cord position and the adaptive privacy setting are stored locally on your Mac through standard macOS preferences.
Camera
ShadeDrop includes an optional feature called adaptive privacy, which lowers the covering by itself when you step away or a second person appears behind you. It is off until you turn it on, from the menu bar.
While it is on:
- Camera frames are analysed on your Mac using Apple's on-device Vision face detector.
- Frames are never recorded, never written to disk, and never transmitted. The app makes no network calls at all.
- Only the number of faces and the position of the largest face survive each frame, in memory. The image itself is discarded immediately.
- ShadeDrop detects faces, not identities. It cannot recognise, identify, or distinguish between people.
- Turning the feature off tears down the capture session, which puts the camera indicator light out.
What ShadeDrop does not access
ShadeDrop does not access files, contacts, calendars, location, photos, microphone, keystrokes, screen contents, or other personal content. It does not read what is on screen; it draws a covering over it.
