CurtainShot Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 19, 2026
CurtainShot does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share personal data.
The app works completely offline. It has no accounts, analytics, advertising, tracking, update checker, or network client. Your tool choices, charm, cord position and save folder are stored locally on your Mac through standard macOS preferences.
Screen Recording
CurtainShot photographs your screen, which is the whole point of it, and macOS requires Screen Recording permission for that. Specifically:
- a capture is taken only when you ask for one, by pulling the charm, pressing Option-Command-4, or choosing Capture Screen from the menu bar;
- it is a single still image, taken with Apple's ScreenCaptureKit. Nothing is recorded continuously, and no video or audio is ever captured;
- the image stays in memory until you save it, and is discarded entirely if you press Escape;
- saved captures are written as PNG files to the folder you chose, and nowhere else;
- nothing is uploaded. The app makes no network requests of any kind.
Your captures
Your screenshots are yours. They are ordinary files in a folder you picked, which you can move, open, or delete like any other file. CurtainShot reaches that folder through a security-scoped bookmark you created by choosing it, and has no access to anything else on your disk.
Clipboard
There is an optional setting to place a finished capture on the clipboard as well as saving it. It is off unless you turn it on, and it writes only to your Mac's own clipboard.
